The Spirited 7000 is based on the popular Spirited 230 and utilises the proven hull design for comfortable and reliable performance. From the waterline up everything has changed, sporting new modern lines and a different configuration. The half cabin design caters for open air use with the connection to the water, however due to the large cover hardtop if the weather turns canvas sides can be rolled down for a protected area out of the elements. Whether out for a day on the water or wanting to spend a couple of nights out, the Spirited 7000 will tick all the boxes. Unlike other boats of this size, this design will be light and easily managed.
Design Brief
Accommodation
The wider design allows for a generous double berth in the front cabin and full head height toilet and shower space. A nice feature when lying in the front berth are the hull windows, which on this side provide a view out over the water. The benefit of full standing headroom in both the front double cabin and the head makes for comfortable usability. Between the front cabin and the head is an opening division door which adds to the cross-ventilation and open feel. This area is all lockable for security, and moving aft through the back deck area the helm station is positioned to Starboard with a compact galley beside the helm chair. Below the galley is a 40-litre drawer fridge and below the seat opposite is an ice box.
Cockpit
The seating arrangement for the aft area is spacious given the extra beam of the boat with the Port side in a U shape around a large table which is on a gas strut and can lower to create a king-sized single bunk. The opposite seating is an L shape with a foot space below the helm chair which allows for a child to sleep on this side. As a social space this area works well together catering for up to eight people for social occasions.
On Deck
Stepping aft out of the cockpit is the aft deck and duckboard which runs around the engine covers so is full width. A great feature to access the water when swimming but also extremely practical for boarding and unloading gear etc from the tender or marina. Access to the foredeck is via the opening centre window of the windscreen with moulded-in steps leading from the cockpit. At the front of the foredeck are two large deck lockers either side of the anchor locker in the middle. The anchor locker is designed for a drum anchor winch running through the front keeping the deck clutter-free.
Performance
With the smaller engine option of twin 60hp outboards this design performs well at low or higher speeds. The hull begins to plane at around 10 knots and will sit comfortably and economically at 12 to 13 knots however the usual cruise speed is at 15 knots. Cruise speeds can be higher depending on the optimum rev range of the engines with a top speed of 22 knots. For more performance twin 90hp engines can be chosen.
Construction
The Spirited 7000 is supplied in kit form, Duflex foam panel is shown below assembled over the MDF build frame. Additional reinforcement is applied to key areas of the hull for extra strength and also for wear and tear. Duflex balsa is also a material option as well as a plain foam option where the panels are laminated by the builder. This option is more cost effective however does add more build hours. Many builders who have chosen this option set up a large laminating table and either resin infuse, hand laminate the panels under vacuum or hand laminate without vacuum assistance. Along with extra time this will also add more technical complexity to the project. At this stage of build the fairing, priming and even painting of the tunnel can be done. If using an epoxy antifouling coating this is the ideal time to do this. Once the hull is turned then the internal fit-out takes place with all main bulkheads, furniture and decks being fitted.
