Spirited 320

LENGTH 10.1m | BEAM 6.4m | USAGE Offshore | KIT OPTIONS DuFlex Balsa/Foam, Plain Foam

The Spirited 320 is packed with features for a compact sports cruiser. Designed with some cruising options such as twin inboard diesel engines, forward facing saloon windows and generous internal space for cruising or even liveaboard comfort. The unique modern styling sets this design apart with aggressive raked bows and sleek cabin structure. The lightweight build weight will ensure excellent performance whether racing around the buoys or cruising the coast.

Design Brief

Inline with the typical the Spirited philosophy, this design incorporates features such as flat decks for safe and practical footing when moving around the boat, generous cover over the cockpit stemming from the cabintop overhang and a safe flat area at the base of the mast for handling the halyards and reefing lines. The cabintop provides a flat area each side of the boom for sail handling and stacking and also allows for plenty of surface for mounting solar panels. A substantial composite prodder is integrated into the forward section of this design acting as the catwalk access to the forebeam between the two trampolines and also providing additional storage in the aft end of the prodder. The prodder adds support to the forebeam and forestay attachment point and protrudes out past the forebeam for the code zero and spinnaker to mount to. Responsive sailing performance and feedback is the aim with this design so that this will be a fun and exhilarating boat to sail. Twin helm stations are key to sailing a performance design like this allowing the driver good visibility on each tack. Once at your favourite anchorage, this design offers enough space and comfort for extended stays.

Cockpit

The Spirited 320 has plenty of width and this provides space on each side of the cockpit for the helm stations. The cut-away corner design of the aft section of the cabintop allows space for the helm areas. Across the back is a long bench seat with also some seating opposite along the saloon bulkhead which comprises a table with a fold-down leaf. Adjacent to the saloon bulkhead window is a cabinet which provides a servery for when meals etc are passed out from the galley. This also creates a flow-through connection to the bridgedeck cabin and saloon area so that this almost feels like one space. Stepping aft out of the cockpit brings you to the aft hull steps, and inboard is the full width duckboard behind the mainsheet traveller. Centred on this aft bulkhead is a single davit arm design for the tender lift. There is also the option of a twin arm davit system if preferred. When navigating up the aft hull steps if staying outboard these lead to a set of smaller side steps taking you up to the side decks.

On Deck

Moving forward along the side decks take you to the foredeck area where there is a seamless transition onto the trampolines and catwalk, with all surfaces on the same level. Around the front of the cabin a couple of steps lead up to the flat working area at the base of the mast. This is a secure space with the cabin front wrapping around to create security when working the halyards. The front of the cabintop can also act as a seat facing forward for extra security. Stepping up onto the cabintop reveals a large expansive area useful for mounting an array of solar panels as well good footing each side of the boom for sail handling and packing.

Construction

The top level package for the build is the Duflex pre-cut kit package which fast-tracks the assembly process. The plain foam core kit is also an option with this design which saves cost however adds significant time and complexity to the project. All the parts require laminating by the builder to create a structural panel. From this point onwards the process is the same as using Duflex panels. The hull bottoms are built first over a series of temporary frames. The shell set-up is as per the Spirited 380 and 480 SAS system, where the two hull bottoms are positioned in cradles and the bulkheads are then fitted. Unlike the Spirited 380 and 480, all of the hull panels above the hull bottoms are flat panel making this part of the structure relatively quick and easy. Otherwise all the same advantages apply, such as ease of access, light and ventilation during the build. Spirited 380 build photo shown below.
